Manager of The Colony Aquatic Park for almost 35 years, she started as a Lifeguard when this facility first opened. Aquatics International Magazine awarded her facility top honors for creative and exciting lifeguard staff training. Along with awards from the American Red Cross, her staff has taken top tier at state competitions for Lifeguards.
Several organizations have formally recognized her contributions. The Girl Scouts gave her their top national award (Thanks Badge) for directing events, teaching crafts and leading song workshops. The Texas Public Pool Council presented her with the Hallaran Distinguished Service Award for efforts to promote water safety and education statewide. The Colony’s Chamber of Commerce selected her as “Citizen of The Year” for commitment to the community. Most recently, Lakeside Community Theatre named her Volunteer of the Year.
She began aquatics as a Water Safety Aide for her mother’s swim classes. With over 40 years as an American Red Cross Instructor, she served on the Dallas Area Chapter’s Instructor Training Cadre and was even made “Ms July” as a Pin-up Girl in one of the Red Cross area calendars.
