Volunteers sought

for Ascendant LPGA

Volunteering is an amazing way to get a behind-the-scenes look at The Ascendant LPGA benefiting Volunteers of America, and experience up-close and personal the operations of this exciting event. This year's tournament is scheduled for Oct. 2-8 at The Golf Clubs at The Tribute. With over 15 committees to chose from, there is a spot for everyone! Join one of the many committees like Marshals, Admissions, or Hospitality, to name a few.

Also, tickets are now on sale! The Ascendant LPGA is excited to welcome a new, upgraded culinary experience to the tournament in 2023. BITE by the Lake, located behind hole No. 17, will feature signature menu items from multiple local restaurants, bars, and chefs. Patrons will have access to all-they-can-eat bite-sized samples throughout tournament play Friday-Sunday. Tickets can be purchased today at https://ascendantlpga.com.

TCAS celebrates new digs

On June 24, The Colony Animal Services celebrated its Grand Re-Opening with a ribbon-cutting event featuring City Council members Joel Marks, Judy Ensweiler, and Brian Wade. The re-opening includes a revamp of the backyard at TCAS, with new outdoor kennels, new grass and irrigation, new fence, fountain, and storage building. The facilities, located at 4720 East Lake Highlands, have also been refurbished, allowing for an expansion of the cat sanctuary in their old building. Adjusted hours for Water Meter Techs

Starting Monday, July 3, and continuing through Friday, Sept. 29, the City's water-meter technicians will be working an adjusted schedule to account for extreme summer heat. Technicians will be in the field from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; and 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. Fridays. Residents should not be concerned if they notice city staff out in their neighborhoods earlier than usual. For more information, contact Customer Services at 972-625-1756.

World's Largest Swim Lesson at The Colony Aquatic Park

Aquatic Park hosts World's Largest Swim Lesson

Water safety is the No. 1 goal at The Colony Aquatic Park! On June 22, Aquatics staff participated in the World's Largest Swim Lesson. This is a global drowning prevention program that began in 2010. Swimming is a life-saving skill for children and a vital tool to prevent drowning. Research from the American Academy of Pediatrics shows that the risk of drowning decreases by 88-percent when children participate in formal swim lessons. City certified Storm Ready

The City of The Colony has earned recognition by the National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as both an Ambassador for the "Weather-Ready Nation" program and as a "Storm Ready" community. Storm Ready communities are certified as being better prepared to save lives from the onslaught of severe weather through advanced planning, education and awareness. Back to School Bash set for July 19

Tickets are now available for Parks & Recreation's annual Back 2 School Bash, scheduled for Wednesday, July 19, at The Colony Recreation Center, 5151 North Colony Blvd. This is for incoming Pre-K to eighth-grade students and there are two timeslots to choose from - 5 to 6 p.m. or 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. The event features free school supplies, door prizes, and a food truck! Emergency Communications Specialist Cheyenne Anderson

What else is In THE News?

In late April, Emergency Communications Specialist Cheyenne Anderson (pictured) received a call for a patient who was unconscious and not breathing. Understanding that the first moments are crucial during cardiac arrest, Anderson quickly determined that CPR was necessary and initiated instructions to the caller for chest compressions. She provided calm, clear instructions to the caller for just over 3 minutes before officers and paramedics arrived to take over. The Colony Fire Department transported the patient to the hospital and they are expected to recover. When this incident was reviewed per policy, Anderson received the highest possible compliance score. She also received High Compliance scores on five incidents the previous month. Anderson has been with The Colony Public Safety Dispatch division for one year and her supervisors are ecstatic to have her as part of their team.
The filing period for the November 2023 City Council Election opens July 22 and continues through 5 p.m. Aug. 21. This year, Places 3, 4, 5, and 6 are up for election for three-year terms. More info, including forms and applications, is available on our website, TheColonyTx.gov.
