Summer water-usage tips

It’s that time of year again, when we would like to share some information with our residents about sprinkler use, swimming pools, and other watering tips as we approach the year’s peak water-usage period. Visit our website for answers to frequently asked questions, such as:

How much water does my sprinkler system use?
How much water does my pool use to refill from evaporating?
If I have a leak, how much water is being wasted? (Leaking faucets and toilets are among the most common issues that cause increase in water usage.)

The City is currently in Phase 1 of our Drought Contingency Plan (PDF), in which residents are encouraged to follow a twice-weekly watering schedule based on your address, with those ending in an even number watering on Sundays and Thursdays; odd numbered addresses on Saturdays and Wednesdays; and no watering on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Fridays.

Library Run registration underway

The 37th Annual Liberty 5K, 10K & 1 Mile Fun Run is set for the morning of Saturday, July 1, at Stewart Creek Park. Bring the whole family and start your holiday off on the right foot. The Colony EDC recognized at County Commissioners Court

County officials honor The Colony EDC

The Colony Economic Development Corporation staff was honored to represent our organization last month as the Denton County Commissioners recognized six cities in the county for receiving the "Excellence in Economic Development Award" from the Texas Economic Development Corporation (TEDC). We thank our EDC Board members, City Council and City staff for the important role they play in this achievement. This is the 15th consecutive year that we have received the award from TEDC! Aquatic Park seeks lifeguards

TCPD hosts Teen Academy

The Colony Police Department will be hosting a Teen Academy June 26-30. In the Teen Academy, teens will hang out with School Resource Officers and Community Resources Officers while they participate in bowling, fishing, biking and swimming. Teens will also participate in classes about topics such as cyberbullying, dating violence, and more. The program is completely free and open to all teens of The Colony. Space is limited. What else is In THE News?

The City's annual efforts to deter migratory birds from nesting in our neighborhoods are underway. Residents (especially those in areas where birds have previously nested) are encouraged to trim their trees in order to minimize potential nesting canopies. Visit the Migratory Bird page of our website for more information.
Mosquito season is here. Do your part to help control the mosquito population in our community by draining standing water on your property. Mosquito season runs May 1 to Oct. 31. During this time, the City conducts a weekly mosquito trapping and testing program throughout the community. Spraying is conducted when test results confirm the presence of West Nile mosquitoes. City offices, facilities, and the library will be closed Monday, June 19, for the Juneteenth Holiday. The library will be closed June 17-19. No delays to trash/recycling collection due to the holiday.
