Celebrate Love in The Colony

The Colony Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its 18th annual Sweetheart Ball on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Cascades Events Center. Arrive in your semi-casual attire and dance the night away amid sparkling tiaras and colorful balloons! Welcoming all daddies, father figures, etc. and their little angels (ages 3-12). Tickets are $35/couple; $10/additional child for same dance time. There are two times to choose from: 5 to 6:30 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Light refreshments provided. Tickets are on sale now for the upcoming Mother & Son Adventure Day, set for noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Lions Club Park. Ensweilers bring home the trophy

Congratulations are in order! The winners of the 11th annual UNITED Tribute Dancing with Our Stars competition are The Colony's own Judy & Dick Ensweiler (pictured at center, with mirror-ball trophies). This marks the second straight year that competitors from The Colony have won the event, hosted by the United Way of Denton County. The event "celebrates the past year's successes, and honors the companies, employees, and community leaders who make it happen." Click the photo for more information.

On Jan. 27, Officer Maria McCracken, Badge No. 457, was sworn in by Chief David Coulon. Ofc. McCracken comes to us with several years experience and recently worked for the Little Elm Police Department. Welcome to the team!

Input sought on update to Comprehensive Plan

Residents of The Colony are invited to share their input on a draft update to the City's Comprehensive Plan by viewing the plan on our website and submitting comments via a webform. The input period is underway now through March 21. Public hearings regarding the plan are scheduled for the Planning & Zoning Commission meeting on March 14 and the City Council meeting on March 21. What else is In THE News?

During its regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 7, The Colony City Council approved a site plan for "Fritz's Adventure," a 46,000 square-foot indoor/outdoor amusement facility, to be located in Grandscape. This would be only the second Fritz's location in the world. The first is in Branson, Mo. View the meeting replay on our website for more information.
Pawsome Playground Dog Park will be closed Monday, Feb. 27, thru Friday, March 3, for repairs. The lighting system at the park is getting a much-needed upgrade. Call Parks & Recreation for more info at 972-625-1106.
The City of The Colony is currently accepting applications for city boards. Board members are appointed by the City Council to serve in a volunteer capacity. Applications for board positions will be accepted in the City Secretary’s Office for vacant positions on various boards. Information on the boards and the application form are available on the city’s website.
