Best of the best are back

It's almost here! The Ascendant LPGA benefitting the Volunteers of America returns to The Golf Clubs at The Tribute in The Colony the last week of September, starting with the Tribute Trail 5K presented by AT&T on Saturday, Sept. 24.

The tournament itself runs from Thursday, Sept. 29, to Sunday, Oct. 2. Get your tickets online today! New this year is what organizers are calling an "adult playground," or The Truck Yard @ The LPGA, which will provide golf fans the opportunity to taste a variety of local brews, signature cocktails and some of the best food around the area brought to you by multiple different food trucks -- all the while taking in the action of the world's best golfers.

Also new this year is the Family Fun Zone, which will offer family activities from a variety of community partners, including The Colony Public Library, Frisco Rough Riders, and The First Tee. 9/11 Memorial Workout

First-responders from The Colony Police & Fire departments were proud to participate alongside student-athletes from The Colony High School in a 9/11 Memorial Workout on Monday, Sept. 12. The event both memoralized the lives lost during the September 11 attacks and helped spur awareness among today's youth. #NeverForget. Click the photo to see the video.

National Night Out set for Oct. 4

The Colony Police Department will be joining the rest of Texas in celebrating this year's National Night Out (NNO) on Tuesday, Oct. 4. NNO is an evening where neighborhood members get out for a couple of hours and meet people who live near each other. First-responders also stop by to talk about safety and security. If you have had block parties in the past, or would like to organize an event on your street for NNO, please send an email to Officer Rick De La Cruz at [email protected].

Fall Clean-Up set for Oct. 15

The City of The Colony and Republic Waste Services will be hosting the annual City-Wide Fall Clean-Up from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 15, in the parking lot of Hawaiian Falls Water Park. Residents of The Colony may bring trash and refuse, such as large tree limbs, furniture, appliances, lumber, remodeling debris, fencing materials and scrap metal for convenient disposal. Hispanic Heritage Month event at Lions Club

The community is invited to participate in The Colony Police Department's Hispanic Outreach Program by attending its Hispanic Heritage Month event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Lions Club Park. Milestone Mondays on Facebook

#DYK? On August 2, 1975, a dedication ceremony took place for Fire Station #1 in The Colony. This was the first big celebration in The Colony and it was called Volunteer Day. The City of The Colony, in partnership with The Colony Public Library and The Colony Local History Committee, publishes weekly "Milestone Monday" posts on the city's Facebook page each Monday evening.

Join The Colony Parks & Recreation for its second Ballads and Bonfires of the season, at 6:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Stewart Creek Park (3700 Sparks Road. Come enjoy the sounds of Scott Willis on piano, and enjoy a few s'mores as we watch the beautiful sunset over the lake! This is a free event but you must use your annual pass to enter the park or purchase a day pass at the kiosk. For more info, call 972-625-1106.
The Colony Public Library and The Colony Local History Committee are hosting "Twilight at Bridges Cemetery" from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. Come on by for a rare tour of this historic site. Committee members will be on hand to answer questions about the cemetery and discuss how the families resting there contributed to the history of the area that is now The Colony.
