City Council schedules public hearings for budget, tax rate

On Tuesday, Aug. 16, The Colony City Council began deliberations on the 2022-23 FY budget and tax rate, scheduling related public hearings and possible approval for the next Council meeting on Sept. 6, 2022. Additional hearings will be set for the meeting of Sept. 20, 2022, if necessary. The Council is considering a 1/2-cent reduction to the property tax rate, which would reduce it from $0.65 cents per $100 valuation to $0.645 cents. If approved as considered, this would be the 18th consecutive year of tax reductions and the 21st straight year the Council has either reduced the rate or kept it flat. Those decisions have resulted in a cumulative savings of $3,221 per homeowner over that timeframe, based on the average value of a home ($369,000) in the city. The LPGA is back!

It was all smiles during media day the morning of Aug. 17 at The Golf Clubs at The Tribute, as organizers and hosts kicked off festivities for the newly named "Ascendant LPGA benefitting the Volunteers of America" golf tournament. The event is scheduled for Sept. 26 to Oct. 2. It's the only LPGA tour stop in the state of Texas. The Colony Mayor Richard Boyer spoke to attendees. Drought Continengcy Plan in effect

The extreme heat of the summer and ongoing dry conditions have necessitated implementation of Phase 1 of the City's Drought Contingency Plan. As part of Phase 1, residents and businesses are encouraged to follow a twice weekly watering schedule determined by your address:

Even-numbered addresses water Sundays & Thursdays;
Odd-numbered addresses water Wednesdays & Saturdays;
No watering on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Fridays.
During any and all phases of the plan, please DO NOT water during any form of precipitation, and do not waste water by allowing runoff onto a street or other drainage area.

These recommendations are not mandatory at this time but strongly encouraged in the hopes of avoiding further phases. For more info, including more details about the City's Drought Contingency Plan and a list of FAQs, visit www.TheColonyTx.gov/water.

Classes have resumed in both Lewisville and Little Elm ISDs. The Colony Police Department reminds motorists to please watch for children walking to and from school. Stop for school buses. Slow down in school zones. Put away the cell phone. #DriveSafe!

The Colony Public Library wishes to thank all who participated and made its Summer Reading Challenge a fun success! In addition to reading and attending programs, participants showed how they could be good neighbors and 271 acts of community service were performed in partnership with Next Steps-The Colony. The City is aware there are concerns regarding the traffic impact of a new project underway on Lebanon Road, near Strike Middle School in The Tribute. While the City approved the permits and believes this is a necessary project (which will add a turn lane and improve the school’s entryway), we wish to be clear this is a Little Elm ISD project and the City did not determine the timing of its start.
