Volunteers sought for City Hall, Library landscaping project

Keep Texas Beautiful has recognized Keep The Colony Beautiful (KTCB) as a recipient of a 2021 Rebuilding Texas Fund Grant in the amount of $5,000. KTCB is using the funds to renovate the landscaping in front of The Colony City Hall and The Colony Public Library, much of which suffered during February’s winter storm. A volunteer event in which residents may sign-up to take part in the renovation project is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 25, at City Hall, 6800 Main St. For more information or to sign up, visit our Eventbrite link or call us at 972-624-3159.

Fall Clean-Up

The City of The Colony and Republic Waste Services will be hosting the annual City-Wide Fall Clean-Up from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 16, in the parking lot of Hawaiian Falls Water Park. Residents of The Colony may bring trash and refuse, such as large tree limbs, furniture, appliances, lumber, remodeling debris, fencing materials and scrap metal for convenient disposal. Never Forget

Scenes from the memorial ceremony at TCFD Firehouse No. 4, marking the 20-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The ceremony included a rotating Honor Guard surrounding the city's piece of World Trade Center steel. The honor guard was made up of members of The Colony Fire and Police Departments.

What else is In THE News?

  • An afternoon of family fun, exclusively for moms and sons, is on tap this weekend at the annual Mother & Son Adventure Day! The event is set for Saturday, Sept. 25, at Lions Club Park. Ages 3-7 is from noon to 3 p.m., with ages 8-12 from 4 to 7 p.m. Explore all things outdoors in a fun and exciting way! Moms and sons will test their skills at archery, fishing, geocaching and many other camping and outdoor activities. Tickets are available online.   • The Colony Firefighters Association is promoting breast cancer awareness in the community with these awesome T-shirts in advance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Shirts are $20. All proceeds go toward fighting for a cure! Anyone interested may stop by Central Station, 4900 Blair Oaks Drive, during business hours or call 972-625-3944 for more information.
  • Many thanks to the Friends of the Pawsome Playground group who recently presented The Colony City Council with a check in the amount of $720 for improvements at the dog park. Current plan is to use these funds towards the cost of installing a water source inside the park so that users would no longer have to fill water bowls.
  • Professional golf in The Colony is moving to the fall! The Volunteers of America Classic LGPA tournament has announced the dates for next year's event. The 2022 tournament will be held Sept. 19-25 at the same host site in The Colony, the Golf Clubs at The Tribute.
