Honor & Remembrance

Memorial Day is coming up at the end of the month on Monday, May 31. American Legion Holley-Riddle Post 21 of The Colony is hosting its annual ceremony to honor and remember our veterans from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Colony Five Star Veterans Memorial, 4100 Blair Oaks Drive. This year's event will be a little different, however, as attendees are asked to register in advance for a drive-thru ceremony. The Legion's Honor Guard Station will stay active for the duration of the event unless there is severe weather. In related news, City offices, facilities, and the library will be closed Monday, May 31, for the Memorial Day holiday. The library will be closed May 29-31. As a reminder, trash/ recycling will be collected as normal that week. Service will NOT be delayed. Visit our website for more information or call 972-624-3131.

Migratory bird hazing explained

Each spring for the past few years, the City of The Colony has taken proactive steps to prevent migratory birds from nesting in residential neighborhoods. If undeterred, the birds will generate significant headaches for affected residents in the form of droppings and dead fish on homes, vehicles, and roadways. Once they have nested and laid eggs, federal law prevents further harassment without a special permit from US Fish and Wildlife. Protectors of Peace

Kudos to The Colony Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division for receiving the Protectors of the Peace Award for 2021 from the Denton County Friends of the Family. The award recognizes the teamwork and dedication needed to protect victims of crime and see that justice is served. Lt. Jay Goodson, Sgt. Brian Baker, Det. Chris Vaughn, Det. Dewayne Kyle, Det. James Barfield, and Det. John Thacker (not pictured) did an outstanding job during a difficult year!

Kidz Kamp is BACK for 2021, and registration is going on now! We are very excited to have all of our kampers back and we are looking forward to a summer of fun at Kidz Kamp! Don’t let your child’s summer be spent sitting at home watching television. Kidz Kamp is for girls and boys between the ages of 6 and 12. Daily activities at Kamp include things like arts and crafts, sports and athletics, games and group activities, and more. Our trained counselors work to ensure that each child has a fun and rewarding Kamp experience. Kampers will go on weekly field trips throughout the summer and will visit The Colony Aquatic Park each Friday afternoon. Click the photo for more info or to register. #PlayTC!

Join the action at the VOA Classic

The 2021 Volunteers of America Classic begins next month! You, too, can be part of the action by volunteering. Benefits include two official tournament shirts, an official tournament hat or visor, and one volunteer badge, which serves as a tournament/parking pass for tournament week. And there's more! The Colony Public Library's Summer Reading Challenge begins soon! Participants of all ages can log their reading from June 1 – July 31 to earn prizes. Registration begins June 1 at 10 a.m. Register in person at the library or online at thecolonypl.org.

Community Center reopened

As of Monday, May 17, The Colony Community Center has reopened. Facility staff are in phased stages of opening, with many classes and activities still offered via Zoom. Click the photo to check out the schedule of events and join The Colony Community Center today!

Calling volunteers with a mind for service! The City of The Colony is currently accepting applications for city boards. Members are appointed by the City Council to serve in a volunteer capacity. Applications for board positions will be accepted in the City Secretary’s Office for terms beginning July 1, 2021.
