COVID-19 vaccine information

From Denton County Public Health: As of Dec. 17, 2020, two COVID-19 vaccines have been authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Vaccines are being shipped directly to enrolled COVID-19 vaccine providers as allocated by the Department of State Health Services (DSHS). However, vaccine supply is very limited at this time and is being distributed only to individuals in Phase 1A and Phase 1B as defined by Texas DSHS. If you are in Phase 1A or 1B, you may visit the Texas COVID-19 Vaccine Provider Locations map to see if and where you might be able to get a vaccine. Remember, your ability to get a vaccine will depend on your eligibility and the vaccine availability at your provider’s office, clinic, or facility. Please call ahead to your provider. More information is available on the Texas DSHS Vaccine website.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Christmas-tree recycling continues

Residents wishing to drop off their Christmas trees for recycling may still do so through Saturday, Jan. 9. The tree-recycling site is at the south end of the Public Services parking lot off of East Lake Highlands Drive, across from the Animal Shelter. Signs will be posted directing residents to the site. Trees must have all lights, ornaments, tinsel and bases removed. No artificial or flocked trees. Free compost will be available sometime in the spring on a first-come, first-served basis. Please bring your own containers. Additional compost will also be available later in the year. For information, call Environmental Services at 972-624-3131.

  • #ICYMI: As of Dec. 3, 2020, the number of COVID-hospitalized patients as a percentage of total hospital capacity in Trauma Service Area E (which includes Denton County and the Dallas-Fort Worth area) exceeded 15% for seven consecutive days. In doing so, provisions of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's Executive Order GA-32 took effect, reducing maximum occupancy at retail and restaurants to 50% and closing bars, among other provisions. These restrictions remain in effect until TSA E maintains a percentage of COVID patients below 15% for seven consecutive days. You can track hospital data on the Texas DSHS COVID-19 dashboard.
