Early voting ongoing through Oct. 30

Early voting by personal appearance for the Nov. 3, 2020, City of The Colony City Council Election, is underway and continues through Friday, Oct. 30. Hours vary by day. Up for election this year are single-member districts Places 3, 4, and 5. There are three early voting locations in The Colony:

City of The Colony Annex Building, 6804 Main St.;
Golf Clubs at The Tribute, 1001 Lebanon Road; and,
Cascades Conference Center at Fairfield Marriott, 5909 Stone Creek Drive.

Registered voters may cast ballots at any early voting location in Denton County. On Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, voters must cast ballots at locations determined by their individual precincts. Fireworks show set for Nov. 7

Like everything in 2020, this year's "American Heroes: A Salute to Veterans" festival and fireworks event looks a little different but we're still hosting the best fireworks show in North Texas! Everyone is invited to join us at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, in the vicinity of The Colony Five Star Complex, 4100 Blair Oaks, to watch the fireworks from the safety and comfort of your car. For everyone’s personal safety, those who visit the area to view the fireworks are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to maintain social-distancing by watching from your vehicles and not gathering in groups at any of the viewing areas. Please be aware that tickets are sold-out for all other on-site activities, including live music and food trucks. There will be NO parking to view the fireworks at Five Star, so plan accordingly! 'Shred Day' scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7

Residents wishing to conveniently dispose of bulk documents may take advantage of a “Shred Day” scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 7, in the parking lot of Hawaiian Falls Waterpark, 4400 Paige Road. This opportunity is being scheduled in light of the shredding service being unavailable during the Fall Clean-Up on Oct. 17. Residents who missed the Clean-Up are encouraged to take advantage of curbside bulk pickup, landfill passes, and the Household Hazardous Waste Program, which includes collection of old electronics. There will also be another Clean-Up event in the Spring. For more information, call Environmental Services at 972-624-3130.

The Colony Police are participating in the DEA Drug Takeback Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in the front drive of The Colony High School, 4301 Blair Oaks Drive. No need to get out of you vehicle as Police Officers will take your old RX drugs and dispose of them properly. Click the photo for a video about this important event.

Spooktacular Halloween Drive-Thru this Saturday

Spooktacular, a Drive-Thru experience, will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Stewart Creek Park, 3700 Sparks Road. Come see all of the Halloween displays from the comfort of your vehicle! This family friendly Halloween Drive-Thru is safe for the entire family to enjoy. Children aged 12 and younger will receive a goody bag of treats at the end of the route. Goody bags are available while supplies last. During the event, attendees must stay in vehicles at all times. The Colony Recreation Center reopened for activities by reservation on Oct. 19. The center will have an abbreviated schedule of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, closed on weekends. All activities require a reservation in advance as the capacity of each area of the facility is being limited to ensure social distancing. The LPGA has announced that the Volunteers of America Classic, scheduled for Nov. 30-Dec. 6, will be contested without spectators in attendance due to concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event, hosted by the Golf Clubs at the Tribute at the Old American Golf Club, will still feature 96 of the world’s best female golfers vying for a $1.75 million prize purse.
