School zone activation information

With the 2020-21 school year getting underway for the Lewisville and Little Elm ISDs, which both serve The Colony students, motorists are advised of the timing for school zones as follows:

For Little Elm ISD in The Tribute, starting Aug. 25:

  • Prestwick STEM Academy: 7 to 9 a.m. & 3 to 4:15 p.m.;
  • Strike Middle School: 8:25 to 9:25 a.m. & 4 to 5 p.m.

For Lewisville LISD, all schools are in virtual learning starting Aug. 19. In-person instruction begins Sept. 8:

  • All schools: 7 to 9:30 a.m. & 3 to 5 p.m.

KTCB offers free DIY rain barrel class

Rainwater is the best water for your lawn, landscape or vegetable garden: divert it, save it, use it! Your Keep The Colony Beautiful Board (KTCB) has partnered with Texas A&M Agrilife Water University to provide residents of The Colony with the opportunity to take a FREE virtual "DIY Rain Barrel Class" at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8. Come learn the basics and benefits of rainwater harvesting and reduce the effect your stormwater has on the environment. Rain barrels are recycled food-grade containers and are roughly 24" wide by 36" tall. Interested participants must register online. Those wishing to pay a $50 fee for the class may collect a fully assembled rain barrel from KTCB volunteers from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 12, in the parking lot of the City Hall Annex, 6804 Main St. For more information, click the image above or send email to Kathleen Rainey from KTCB: krainey@thecolonytx.gov.

Shark in the Park winners

Thanks for playing!

All last week, staff from The Colony Aquatic Park celebrated shark week by hosting a "Shark in the Park" contest, where residents followed social-media clues to a variety of miniature sharks hidden at various parks around the city. As part of the city's renewed contract with Republic Services, trash and recycling collection is only delayed during three holidays in the year: New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Trash and recycling will be collected as normal (with no delays) during all other annual holidays, including the upcoming Labor Day holiday on Sept. 7.
