City Council approves zoning change to address pet shops

At its regular meeting on Jan. 21, The Colony City Council unanimously approved text amendments to the city’s Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance that enact new restrictions regarding where a pet shop can build and/or operate within the city. With the amendments, pet shops are now prohibited as part of the city’s overall zoning but permitted within a Planned Development (PD) district if the given PD ordinance specifically allows it. A PD is a special zoning district that provides more flexibility in regards to mixed uses. Examples of PDs in The Colony include The Tribute and Grandscape. CDC offers bike-rack grant program for local businesses

#DYK? The Colony Community Development Corp. (CDC) has launched a new bike-rack grant program now available to local businesses. As The Colony becomes a more and more bike-friendly community, the demand for locations to park and secure your bike increases as well. The CDC is working to meet that demand with these grant opportunities. If you know of a local business that would benefit from the addition of a bike rack, be sure to mention this new program to them! More info about the grant process can be found on the CDC website
