In response to the death of George Floyd, please read this message from The Colony Chief of Police David Coulon:

As the Police Chief and on the behalf of the entire The Colony Police Department I feel I must comment on the death of George Floyd. Like you, I have seen the videos and read the stories. I have stared at pictures of the officer and wondered what could possibly be happening in that man’s head. Here at TCPD we are at a loss to understand why this could still happen in America. We condemn the actions of that officer.
In The Colony, we not only hold each officer accountable for all actions in uniform, but we also hold accountable all the fellow officers at the scene if they fail to step in and stop such situations. We train every year in proper use of force, in de-escalation and in treating every person with the dignity and respect, every person has a basic human right to.
When the actions of a bad officer tarnishes his badge, my badge is tarnished. I take personal offense to this and to the disgrace brought to the badges of good TCPD officers. I support the decision of Minneapolis Police Chief to fire the officer and I concur with the mayor of Minneapolis that the officer must be held accountable as quickly and thoroughly as possible.
Here at TCPD we work hard to make sure our officers and our community are one. We do not view community outreach as an activity but as a philosophy for all we do and a requirement for policing today. We have high standards in hiring, training and retaining police officers. The community has always had our backs and we remain committed to having the backs of 100% of the citizens of The Colony. Please judge the officers of this community by TCPD actions, as those are the actions under our control. In addition, know that we are your police officers and we answer to you every moment of every day.
-David Coulon, TCPD Chief of Police
