There's dirt moving at Stewart Creek Park as part of a new project to relocate the park's long-standing swimming beach.
Work began recently where the new beach will be located, within the no-wake zone on the south side of the park, across from the nearby marina. Contractors are also laying out the foundation of a new mini-trail that will run through the beach area.
The old swim beach at the north end of the park, across from Stewart Peninsula Golf Club, will no longer be maintained as a beach area (sand won’t be added there each year). Future uses are being considered, such as a kayak-launch area or something similar.
