[ARCHIVED] TCPL to join community of Family Place Libraries

Family at TCPL

Made possible by a well-earned grant from the Texas State Library & Archives Commission, The Colony Public Library will soon be joining the Family Place Libraries™ national network.

Family Place Libraries™ are charged with providing resources to help families nurture their children's development and early learning during the critical first years of life. To help ensure all children enter school ready and able to learn, TCPL's new Family Place will include: a specially-designed space in the children's area for families with young children to relax, play, share books, and meet other families; parent-child workshops; collections of books, toys, music, and multimedia materials for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, parents, and caregivers; and librarians specially-trained in child development and family support.

The Family Place Libraries™ model is now in over 400 libraries in 29 states serving thousands of young children and their parents/caregivers. The Colony Public Library is proud to be among them. Staff will attend Family Place Libraries™ training in March 2019 and begin working on transforming a space in the children’s area before offering Parent-Child Workshops in 2020. Stay tuned!
