The Colony City Secretary's Office has earned the Achievement of Excellence Award from the Texas Municipal Clerks Association (TMCA). The Colony is one of only 24 cities out of 595 TMCA members to earn the recognition.
The Colony City Council recognized City Secretary Tina Stewart and her team during its regular meeting on May 2, 2023. Pictured are Stewart and Mayor Richard Boyer, who noted that this was the first time the City of The Colony has received this recognition. In addition, the Council proclaimed April 30 through May 6, 2023, as Municipal Clerks Week in The Colony.
The Achievement of Excellence Award program recognizes the statutory requirements and demands for the effective management of resources for proper governance by the municipal clerk's office. The award itself recognizes municipal clerk's offices throughout the state for compliance with federal, state, and local statues that govern standards necessary to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the office. A municipal clerk office must have met and demonstrated nine of 12 standards to be eligible for the award. The 12 standards considered by a committee include:
- Records Management
- Professional Development/Certifications
- Government Transparency
- Public Information Act
- Open Meetings Act
- Municipal Clerk Office Policies/Procedures
- Other Areas of Responsibility
- Innovation/Streamline Projects
- Departmental Training
The recipients of this award will be recognized in the June issue of the TMCA Inc. newsletter and officially acknowledged in October at the awards banquet held during TMCA's annual Advanced Institute. In addition, the Municipal Clerk's Offices will receive a framed award certificate. Visit the TMCA website for more information about the program and association.
