The Colony Emergency Dispatcher Cesar Montano was recognized with the "Silent Hero" award at the Texas Public Safety Conference on April 2-5, 2023, in Galveston.
The Silent Hero award is presented each year to an individual for exceptional professionalism in the field of emergency communications. It is awarded to an individual who goes “above and beyond the call of duty,” and who is recognized as being dedicated to emergency communications each day.
The Colony Emergency Communications Director Toni Knier nominated Montano for the award, saying he is a true champion, both professionally and personally.
"Cesar maintains a positive attitude and always sees the good in others, regardless of the situation," she said. "Cesar uses his words to build others up; never tears them down. ... He anticipates the needs of his co-workers and completes tasks for the benefit of the team, without being asked. Cesar voluntarily works overtime and covers shift shortages when his co-workers are out sick or just need time off."
Montano has been with the agency since 2018. This past year, he completed his Communications Training Officer Certification and works daily to make sure he is doing all he can to help his trainees. "What a relief it is for me ... when I leave for the day knowing the center is in good hands because Cesar is on duty," Knier said.
In recognition of his dedication, Denco Area 9-1-1 sponsored Montano's registration and travel costs for the awards luncheon in which he was honored.
