New speed limit on Main Street

Main Street speed limit sign

As of Jan. 8, the Texas Department of Transportation has changed the speed limit on Main Street between SH121 and the northern city limits to 45 mph.

Previously the speed limit had been 35mph during the course of the Main Street Widening project. The contractor has posted new speed limit signs on both the north- and southbound sides of the roadway. Please keep in mind that the school zone speed limit is still 30 mph during their designated time schedules.

The Colony Police Department reminds you that driving faster may put motorists at their destinations a bit sooner, but that doesn't mean the journey will be a safe one. High speeds make a crash more likely because they increase the distance needed to stop a vehicle. Collisions also become more deadly because crash energy increases exponentially as speeds go up. PLEASE DRIVE SAFELY!!!
