At approximately 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, The Colony Police Department received a 911 call reporting a burglary in progress in the 5500 block of Rice Street.

Officers arrived at the residence and located two inside the home. One of the suspects fled from the residence. The other suspect produced a knife. Officers, fearing for their lives, drew their service weapons and fired at the suspect. The suspect was struck and died at the scene. None of the Officers involved were injured.

The Texas Rangers are investigating and no additional information is currently available.

UPDATE (10:44 a.m. Dec. 20): As for the information concerning another possible suspect, the report TCPD received last night was preliminary. Responding Officers arriving on scene observed a male running away from the area around the home on foot. Investigators are not sure if he was involved in the incident, or was just an innocent bystander who ran when police arrived. Officers searched the area thoroughly, and no other suspects were found. The investigation is ongoing and we will update when new information is available.

UPDATE (2 p.m. Dec. 20): Preliminary investigation indicated there may have been a second suspect involved in the incident. Responding Officers arriving on scene reported observing a male running away from the area around the home on foot. Officers searched the area thoroughly, and no other suspects were found. Investigators now believe the suspect was alone. The suspect shot in last night’s incident has been identified as Shaquille Rogers, 24 years of age, from the city of The Colony. The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is currently available.

UPDATE (Dec. 22): The two Officers involved in the officer-involved shooting incident are Lieutenant Charles Wood, a 21-year veteran of The Colony Police Department, and Officer Joseph Shipp, a 4-year veteran of The Colony Police Department. Both Officers are on routine administrative leave. The Texas Rangers are still investigating and no additional information is currently available. New information will be released as it becomes available.
