The primary goal of reference service is to ensure access to information resources. Reference questions will be responded to in the order received. In case of time restraints, priority will be given to in-person requests. Telephone and email requests will receive response as promptly as possible. Remote requests may be made using the Web form on this site or by calling the Reference Desk at 972-625-1900 ext. 3 or by email.
If it is not possible to fill the request to the customer's satisfaction with the Library's resources, staff may contact other area libraries on the customer's behalf, refer the customer to outside resources, or recommend the use of the Interlibrary Loan service.
The reference staff is trained to conduct effective reference interviews, to identify sources to meet the customer's information needs, and to assist the customer in the use of these sources; it is not the role of the reference staff to interpret the information found in those sources.
