Activities

The Colony Crafters

In addition to providing an outlet for seniors to socialize and learn new crafts at the center, The Colony Crafters donate crafts to area nursing and memory care centers. Donations have included Mother’s Day corsages, Spring flower wreaths, door decorations, wash cloth bunnies and more.

Educational Scholarship

An endowed scholarship was established by The Senior Citizens of The Colony in 2009. This scholarship through the Lewisville Education Foundation will grant a scholarship to one The Colony High School graduate each year. Qualifications for the scholarship include being a The Colony resident and planning on majoring in a field that would serve seniors, such as medicine or social services.

Food Drives

The Senior Citizens of The Colony support an ongoing food drive. Monetary donations are made to local food banks twice a year in addition to the canned food as it is collected.

Happy Hookers

The crochet group is famously known for their name, the Happy Hookers. They take great pleasure in attaching a label to each of the hundreds of items donated each year that states the item was made with love and prayers by the Happy Hookers. Items donated include blankets, caps and booties for preemies; wiggies for cancer patients, caps for impoverished children, lap robes for VA hospitals and the Red Cross. These women work tirelessly many hours a week to provide for those in need. They have been featured as a Good Neighbor on WFAA News.
