The Professional Standards Division encompasses several components of the Police Department: Internal Affairs, Recruiting, Training, Community Resource and Public Services.
The Professional Standards Division consists of one Sergeant and one Officer. The division is responsible for the administration of the internal affairs investigative process, screening and testing of police applicants for employment within the department, monitoring the procedures by which use of force and police pursuits are reviewed as well as maintaining all Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education rules regarding mandated and other training. Additionally, the division monitors and gathers traffic stop data pursuant to statutes banning racial profiling, instructs an educational awareness program to the youth for drug and alcohol prevention, coordinates National Night Out, manages the citizen's police academy and any other assignment directed by the office of the Chief of Police.
