On December 6th, 2002, The Colony Police Explorer Post was honored when they got the opportunity to help Officer Mark Phillips and People Magazine. Officer Phillips was noticed by People Magazine for his involvement with the Beat The Heat program and his Corvette Hot Rod. People Magazine decided to write a story about Officer Phillips and this program and asked the Explorers to be part of this by posing with Officer Phillips during the photo-shoot. People Magazine came to The Colony Police Department and took several photo's of Officer Phillips, his Corvette, and the Explorers depicting what Beat The Heat is all about. Beat The Heat is an educational tool which strives to keep kids from making the wrong decision of street racing and also helps build a closer relationship between the youth and the police because of a common interest. People Magazine stated it would take between three and six months to get the article and photo's to print and on the shelves. This was a great opportunity for national recognition for the Explorers, but most importantly Officer Phillips and his involvement with the Beat The Heat program along with his Corvette.
