On Friday afternoon, May 23, 2008, at around 1300 hours, The Colony Police Department served a search warrant at 4920 F.M. 423, First Choice Food Mart. After police received information that drug paraphernalia was being sold from the store to both adults and minors, police began an investigation that lasted several months. During the investigation, police made several undercover purchases from different store clerks, including the owner of the store, of drug paraphernalia and had made it known of its intended use when the purchases were made. The paraphernalia included such items as glass pipes for smoking crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana, along with drug grinders, digital scales, and “one hit” pipes. The paraphernalia was kept hidden from view and in a locked cabinet. The employees were careful and would only sell to people they knew or who they were comfortable selling to. Along with the seized drug paraphernalia, police also seized over $2,600.00 in cash from the store.

In connection with the investigation, police arrested the following store employees:

  1. Bikesh Karmacharya, a/m, 01/31/1985, who was charged with Possession or Delivery of Drug Paraphernalia to Person u/18, HSC 481.125(c), a State Jail Felony.
  2. Riaz H. Rajput, i/m, 03/25/1958, who was also charged with Possession or Delivery of Drug Paraphernalia to Person u/18, HSC 481.125(c), a State Jail Felony.

The investigation is on-going and arrest warrants have been obtained for other suspects not arrested at the scene.

State Jail Felony in punishable by confinement in a state jail for any term of not more than two years or less than 180 days and up to a $10,000.00 fine.
