Sometimes life can throw you a curve, and you have to face some tough decisions. Whether or not to keep your dog or cat is often one of those decisions. If your circumstances force you to give up your pet, we can help.
Residents of The Colony may surrender ownership of a pet to The Colony Animal Control Shelter by simply showing proof of residency (picture identification with an address or a utility bill), completing a short questionnaire and release form and paying a $20 fee.
If you have vaccination records, spay/neuter or microchip records, BRING THEM WITH YOU. These records may help us place your pet. Additionally, if your pet is AKC registered, we encourage providing that paperwork as well.
If the health and temperament of the animal makes him or her suitable for adoption, we will provide the opportunity for him or her to find a new home. Additionally, your pet's profile and photo will be made available to countless rescue organizations that we partner with in an effort to save homeless pets. However, we do NOT guarantee that ANY pet will be adopted or placed with a rescue organization.
Euthanasia
Whether sick or injured, there comes a time when every pet-owner must face the toughest decision for their animal: whether or not to have the animal put-to-sleep.
The Colony Animal Control Shelter provides pet euthanasia services for residents. The fee to have an animal put to sleep is $50. This includes communal cremation services.
Appointments for euthanasia are not necessary, however we do encourage you to call ahead so that we have the proper personnel available to perform the procedure. This will insure that your pet is tended to quickly and doesn't have to wait in the holding area.
If you would like your pet's remains, we offer private cremation services as well. Your pet will be cremated alone and the ashes returned to you in an urn. The fee for private pet cremation is $75, and this process takes approximatley two weeks.
As we understand the impact this type of decision has on pet-owners, we are always available for consultation. We are not, however, veterinarians. If you have vet-specific questions, please contact your vet. We can only answer questions about the euthanasia procedure itself.

of this earth will ever be."
