Adoption fees for the City of The Colony Animal Control is $20, cash or check ONLY. We do NOT accept debit or credit cards, and in addition we cannot accept out-of-state checks.
Before you can take an animal home, you will need to PREPAY with a vet of your choice for the following procedures:
- Spay / Neuter Surgery
- Rabies Vaccination
- Microchip
These procedures are mandated by Texas Law, and cannot be negotiated. All animals adopted from shelters must be sterilized, microchipped or tattooed to prove sterilization, and be vaccinated against the rabies virus. A prepaid receipt for these services must be given to the receptionist at the time of the adoption.
Since adoptions are first-come, first-served basis, you will need to come to the shelter to verify that the animal you wish to adopt is still here. DO NOT PREPAY AND THEN COME TO THE SHELTER, AS THE ANIMAL MAY ALREADY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Some veterinarians will allow you to prepay over the phone for these services, which can be done at the shelter.
As every vet is different, we cannot quote you prices on these services. In general, depending on the sex, weight, and species, these services will cost anywhere between $50 and $200. In addition, some vets will require other procedures as well, which can further increase the price. These services are the MINIMUM requirements under Texas State Law.
Once you've prepaid and we receive the receipt, you will be allowed to take your animal home. You MUST have these services done by the time indicated on your adoption paperwork, or animal control will issue citations for failure to do so. In general, you will have 4 to 7 days to get the procedures done, and then 10 days to report back to us. If the animal is too young or ill, we'll need information from the vet verifying this in order to extend you extra time.
The Colony Animal Services offers NO refund or exchange. All adoptions are final. If you cannot take care of the animal, you will need to surrender the animal back to the shelter so that we can try to place it up for adoption again.
